Online Training: Introduction to Social Media Workshop

What you will learn

Demystify social media and get all of your questions about it answered ... from the comfort of your own home.

The Online Training: Introduction to Social Media Workshop is a fun, live, week-long training that you can sign into online from anywhere in the world. You'll be able to see and hear the speaker and raise your hand (albeit virtually!) to ask questions, just like in any LI training.

Each day covers a new topic with a combination of speaker presentations and hands-on practice, so you develop new skills right away.

Social Media 101 (Monday at 3pm EDT -- 60 minutes): In this fun, easy-to-follow introduction to social media, you'll learn:
- how political campaigns and organizations use social media;
- the origins of social media -- back to ancient Rome; and
- the meaning of common (but confusing) social media terms.

Facebook 101 (Tuesday at 3pm EDT -- 90 minutes): Whether you’re brand new to Facebook or not, you’ll learn how to use Facebook for politics, including:
- tips and tricks for using the platform, including events and an overview of ads, and
- how media companies, organizations, and political campaigns are using the platform.

Twitter 101 (Wednesday at 3pm EDT -- 90 minutes): Twitter is one of the most fun tools for political junkies, but also one of the most daunting for new users. Learn how to navigate Twitter like a pro, including:
- how to find Twitter accounts that you want to follow;
- exactly what all the symbols (e.g. @, #) mean; and
- how media companies, organizations, and political campaigns are using the platform.

Social Media for Activism (Thursday at 3pm EDT -- 60 minutes): Put your new skills to work for a candidate or cause by learning:
- lessons from case studies of online activism;
- four common mistakes and how you can avoid them; and
- three types of projects you can try right away.

Social Media Tools, Ads, and Emerging Platforms (Friday at 3pm EDT -- 30 minutes): In the cap to the week, you'll learn
- information more social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat;
- more in-depth knowledge of Facebook ads and how to make the most of a limited budget; and
- free or low-cost tools you can use to make social media easier -- and more fun -- to manage.
